2002 to 2008 Dodge Ram Lowering
|
The front suspension on the 2WD Ram 1500's is a typical control arm, coil and spindle combo that you can lower by replacing any of the items. But, there are some notes. They made a control arm change in 2006 so DJM's listing only works up to 2005. The spindles didn't change unless your truck is an SRT, then they had Brembo brakes so the spindles don't work.
Now if your truck is a 4WD then the 2002-05 models used torsion bars. We have a few sets of lowering keys left over that are in our clearance bin. The spindles from the 2WD trucks fit the 4WD as well but McGaughys says "2WD ONLY" due to the fact that you can have drive axle issues from lowering it. Use at your own risk. In 2006 they changed to a coil-over strut design. Ground Force does make a complete lowering kit but it's really pricey for what you get. The spindles do still bolt up, same disclaimer though.
In the rear is a typical leaf setup but replacement hangers are not an option and the shackle only has room for a one inch drop. So that means the most common drop is with a flip kit but a lot of times it goes down too far. Your best choice is to go with a set of BellTech replacement leaf springs that will give you 3 inches of drop.
